I've seen it a lot with camera gear on an auction site here, and also with online parrot toy shops based in the US.

It's called drop shipping and a lot of third party Amazon sellers do this (and on eBay as well). It's a little more risky for the seller since they have no control over the shipping. I wouldn't worry about it though, most go through fine and Amazon will have your back if you don't get your purchase.

There is nothing wrong with Third party sellers or shippers (if done properly) Even Adorama is a third party seller on amazon.
With amazon you covered 100% by Amazon on third party sales (if you paid with your amazon's account). There is no "if amazon gets money back from seller" or any fine print like this, you get your money back if seller doesn't deliver.
If it's pass estimated delivery date - you can leave negative feedback to seller (you can remove negative feedback later) - that will get seller's attention.
If something goes wrong - don't file the chargeback with your credit card - that makes Amazon mad. First try to resolve problem with the seller or file A-to-Z claim with Amazon.

He's correct, drop shipping is becoming more and more popular in the last few years since it allows people to run business without having to warehouse lots of merchandise.

You run a store front online or in town and when someone orders something you contact the supplier which you are setup with and they send it directly to the customer.

Telling them you got a couple weeks to prove to you that they are running a legit business is kind of a waste of their time since its common practice.

I've had stuff from Amazon take two weeks or more. Unless you paid for expedited shipping I would give it another week or so.

Drop shipping has been around since before the Internet became the shopping meca. Prior to that it was also used in the mail order industry for many long years and still is today. Drop shipping is very common.

Agreed!
These days it is more than norm than the exception. Costs are lowered by having no inventory. I would not worry!

These days it is more the norm than the exception. It helps keep costs down by having no physical inventory. I would not worry!

To the OP, you mention it's been a week and nothing. When you placed this order through Amazon and BEFORE you submitted the order, what was the ship date they mentioned on your order?
