can't believe Canon have "never seen this problem before"

sounds like a stuck shutter switch...

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

Thats what I originally thought but the shutter isnt stuck. Unless its internal electrical problem.

Seems strange, is the lens mounted correctly or have you tried another lens, also try removing both batteries for a couple of minutes to force a reset. Another possibility is have you done a firmware update that has perhaps got corrupted.

If you removed batteries, including internal one and reset ... and still acting funky ... time to send back in or replace with new one at store purchased from....

there's actually two switches being operated - both the focus & shutter switch. You haven't had the camera out in the rain have you?

Basically my 7D became possessed by taking photos by itself. When I turn on the camera it auto focuses and takes a photo. I have tried resetting everything, taking out the lens, and taking out the battery and CF card. But I continue to have this problem. I also called Canon and they made me sound like I was crazy. Just wondering if anyone else had this problem. Here's some videos to show whats going on.

Hard to believe Canon has never seen this before. They have to fix it. This needs to be fixed.

Why is it hard to believe they have not seen it before?

Is there evidence of it happening a lot?

I don't find it at all hard to believe that Canon has not seen this before. I haven't seen anything like this reported on POTN, or anyplace else. This is probably a one-in-a-billion sort of thing, at least in terms of symptoms, and you have to admit that it is somewhat unbeliveable until you watch the video.

I am assuming that this happens with all lenses.

Send it in. This is a broken camera that must still be on warranty, so there is no reason to hesitate.

I agree!

Instead of wasting time creating videos for youtube, and posting them here, send it in and let Canon see it. Then let is know what Canon has to say about it.
