I have a Vixen Super Polaris mount and I'm wanting to find out where to put polaris for my alignment. I do everything of leveling the telescope stand, pointing it towards polaris, and setting up the day/month and hour. I know since the mount is from the late 80's or early 90's I can't put polaris in the small circle since polaris has moved over the years.

Here is a rough diagram of what I see through the polaris scope. This was setup from Oct. 26 2010 at around 1930hrs pacific time.

My apologies if this insults you but it's worth asking. Do you have your mount altitude dial locked down at the proper setting for your location?

I'll dig more when I get home but I came across this, might have some useful info:

Polaris has moved about 3 arc minutes since 1990. I think that it's pretty safe to say that using your polaris scope will be close enough.

Right at the tip of the red arrow. I have an Atlas EQ-G and I see the same etched image looking through the polar scope.

One thing I use that has helped alot is the Kochab method to align the scope. In short you rotate your polar scope in its housing so the line I marked in blue is aligned with your counterweight bar. (READ UP ON THIS BEFORE YOU DO IT) Then when you go to align the scope, make your counterweight bar draw a line from Polaris to Kochab. Then put Polaris in the circle shown by the red arrow.

Done.

Here's some good info:

This link has pictures (the second one is good):
