I actually like the result from adjusting WB in DPP. But, I have noticed that after I adjust the WB in DPP the images goes back to the original when imported into LR2. Then, when I try to adjust the WB in LR it just doesn't seem to hit the spot as easily as in DPP.

I have even 'saved' the changes in DPP but they are reverted back to the original when imported into LR.

Just wondering what everyone else uses to correct WB.

Also, if you know of a work around to allow the changes made in DPP to remain even when imported into LR.

Nothing you do in DPP will "show up" in LR -- DPP writes processing info in a proprietary place in the file "header" that only Canon software can "see" when you do a Save. The only way of getting a processed file to "show up" in other software is to do a Convert and Save or Batch Process and convert the image to an image format (jpg or tiff).

Actually, Adobe does something similar if you use, say, Lightroom to "Write Metadata to File". You can use Photoshop (Bridge and Camera Raw) to read the Lightroom processing, keywords, etc, but other software won't. You have to Export the image, again, to a jpeg or tiff for outside software to "see" it.

As far as LR White Balance, well, it's just going to be in how you tweak it. If you have a White Balance target in one of your shots, using the White Balance eyedropper should get good results, just note that Lightroom and DPP can't be expected to get exactly the same results, so getting things the way you like them is up to you. Some people actually prefer to use DPP over Lightroom because to them it is easier to get things the way they like in DPP than it is in LR -- it's a matter of personal preference.

If I use DPP, the adjusted raw file is then sent to Photoshop and saved as a TIF. WB and any other DPP adjustments are preserved.

It bothers me how easy it is to get the WB correct in DPP but then I have to save as a TIF before importing to LR.

I just need to get better at adjusted WB in LR. I don't know why, but I have never been a big fan of ACR. Call it rebellion...I don't know. Probably because ACR used to drive me nuts until I learned about Color Management and Calibration. By then, I had already got used to DPP and LR.

Thanks for sharing, I should probably spend some time in ACR. I don't think I have used it since CS2 and I'm on CS4 now.

Most of the time Lightroom 3, for skintones typically Photoshop using the CMY % Method (external link)

The new ACR produces imho btw so much better results than the previous versions (better noise reduction & sharpness)

Thanks, I'm going to play with it and compare the two.
