Last Friday we woke up really early to drive up to Brasstown Bald before sunrise. This is Georgia's highest peak at 4,784 feet elevation. A cold front had just went through and conditions on the peak were not great with very strong winds and temps in the 30's (it was 52 in the lower elevations). I had to brace my tripod while bracing myself against the wall of the observation deck. I think the photos turned out OK despite the conditions.

Number two is a beauty.

Do you use any kind of filter? i read somewhere that the rays can damage the Camera.

Thank you! It's directly east of Blairsville, and roughly the same distance north of Helen.

Thank you! I think I had my CPL on at the time, but it was early and I was running on little sleep, so my memory of the morning is not so clear right now.

Thank you! That was my favorite of the bunch too. I have a few more on Flickr.

This was kind of a practice session and mini "warm-up" for my trip to Taiwan in two months. While we are there we will spend a night near the top of Mt. HeHuan east peak (11,200 feet) and hike to the summit for sunrise.

#2 definitely, what kind of filter is a CPL, circular polarizer? (yea, CPL....I got it)

The outer sun yellow and the yellow rays, was that simply the CPL and exposure for that or did some PP needed also? So neat.

Some exposure adjustments were necessary to get the rays to show up better - but kind of blew out the sun a bit in the process. I guess that's the tradeoff. I don't think the CPL had anything to do with that and probably should not have been used (due to it being a little dirty and adding some bright orbs to my photos, many of which I cleaned up in Photoshop). I think the rays are more due to the smaller aperture used.
