Kingfisher

A first for me. I know kingfishers are fairly common in the U.K., but I don't think there are many of these on Guernsey.

Just beautiful colours on a bird which, apart from books, I have never seen in the wild before.

Observed him on saturday, shot him on sunday when I had a rough idea of where he'd be. Involved some luck tho', was just about to pack up and go home empty handed when he landed nearby.

I could crop alittle more, but like the sense of proportion of what is quite a small bird. What do you think?

To be honest, I would have been just as happy just seeing the bird.
Getting a picture just makes the memory last longer

I live in London and don't get a chance to see Kingfishers.
There are supposed to be some at a local nature reserve so I'll keep looking

Very nice capture of a beautiful bird. If that's uncropped, I would crop a bit top and bottom. It looks like you have some nice detail there.

Gorgeous bird, and very well captured.

Wonderful shot here although the bird is small in the frame it's sharp and wonderfully exposed and would probably crop nicely with no loss, and the background here is perfect.

Lived nearly all my early years on the Norfolk Broads and only ever saw one Kingfisher. Great picture, well captured and thanks for sharing.

Beautiful photo with great colours. I agree with the cropping suggestions...

I *love* this shot, the bokeh is just amazing and goes so well with the colours of the bird. I would crop the bottom off so that the branch comes out from just above the bottom right but no more so the branch does a nice diagonal across the picture.

I take it you used the 500 f/4 for this...
