I missed this year's event, But heard good reviews from colleagues that went. It sounds promising I also saw a few pro photography sites promoting it. I never been to one of these events, but wanted to hear if any one has been the site is :

There is always seminars and shooters willing to dispel knowledge for a nominal fee. Like everything in life some are better than others. I suggest finding shooters you admire and see if they are holding anything nearby, or have DVDs. Also suggest reading up on blogs before dropping money on a seminar which you do not recognize anyone. $80 is not awful, but honestly I can think of better things to do with my money. Google the reviews of these events and see what others think.

I'll check into it....what had me impress with this site was the sponsor page they had canon, smugmug, adobe, and etc. I don't know if they do this annually, but I know locally they must have something cheaper.

Would not look too much into all the "sponsors." If you look closer, these are all held at stores, and I can guarantee that during their demo, they will be pitching equipment too. They have great products, but do not confuse sponsored by with endorsed by. If you go into it knowing you might learn a few things between product plugs, which you may find interesting, then you will hopefully not be let down after sitting through what hopefully will not turn into a 4 1/2 hour product demonstration.

I am not sure what you would learn. I bet you would leave inspired which is not a back thing.

PS, Max $89 is not that expensive compared to others.

Clay Blackmore is a bona fide illuminary in the business, although I can't vouch for whether his presentation is an informercial or all bankable knowledge.

These aren't held at stores FYI. If you look closer, there is a main "dealer/sponsor" which may be a store, but, for example, the Detroit one tonight is being held at the Embassy Suites Hotel & Conference Center with Camera Mart as the dealer/sponsor. The website is misleading on this, so I can see where you might have thought it was at a store.

Good catch. It does look like a couple are held at some stores, for example one is being held at a Calumet, which I know many have the room for such a class.

a friend of mines said they touched bases mostly on making videos with DSLR's ; and editing that was mostly it.

Good catch :)

I was at the one in Oakbrook, IL. Clay is a veritable dynamo and most defiantly inspires all who attend. He explained his shooting techniques and did a couple of live demos with members from the audience. The first half was geared towards portraiture and the second half was all about DSLR video, techniques, editing and gear recommendations.

There was plenty of infomercial content but only because they actually USE a specific brand of gear. Calumet Photo was a major sponsor and had a bunch of stuff at decent prices for sale.

If you do decide to attend, make sure you get a discount code. There are ones for $15 off all over the place and even $25 off ones if you can find them.

I give it a 8.5 out of 10 and I'm not a video guy...

Unless I'm near a city where it's happening (and I'm not even in the country right now), I'll just stick to PhotoVision.com stuff for now :-)
