Nov 02, 2010 15:53 | #1 I just bought a new 580 EX II. When the 580 is on the camera I have no trouble using my 420 EX as a slave to the 580. However, when I trigger the 580(in master mode) off camera with my Pocket Wizards, the 420 flashes after the 580 and after the shutter has open and shut. Anybody have any ideas on what is going on here??

You'll need to buy two PWs, but then the 420EX will only fire at full power as it has no manual settings.

Ok, so basically it can't be done then. The 420 EX can't take a PW so I'll need to get another flash and another PW to trigger that flash.........Thanks for the info.

The 420EX is an E-TTL only flash and for what you want to do, the flash needs to be set to manual-slave mode (which the 420EX cannot be set to). ...Leo

The FlexTT5 supports the 420EX in TTL mode and with an AC3 on the Flex or Mini on the camera both the 580EXII and the 420EX can be controlled as manual or TTL Speedlites.
