After calibrating dual Dell 2209WA's, and receiving test prints from Bay Photo, the color doesn't match. The maker of my i1Display2 asked me if I embedded my calibrated .icc profile into my photo files. I said "no".

He said "Then your lab has no clue how your system is calibrated, so there's no way they can match your screen."

Ok, that being said.... Bay Photo is telling me something that conflicts what my i1D2 people are saying. The lab says:

      • In the Photoshop Menu bar go to Edit > Color Settings

  1. Go to Working Spaces and for RGB Files select either "sRGB IEC61966-2.1" or "Adobe RGB (1998)"
  2. Under Color Management Policies next to RGB select “Convert to Working RGB"
  3. Next to Profile Mismatches check “Ask When Opening” and “Ask When Pasting"
So, the lab tells me to apply sRBG 1966-2.1 color space, while i1D2 calibrator tech support says to assign my monitor profile to every file before sending to the lab. Who do I listen to and which .icc profile do I use?

PLEASE HELP ME.

THanks!
Danny

The i1 Display people are completely full of it, they're so wrong i'd call up and make a complaint about how bad the information provided is. You NEVER embed your monitor profile in the image send for printing, what do they care what your screen does? You need to embed sRgb or Adobe RGB like the lab has said, and make sure that's your working space.

What profile was embedded in the image you sent to the lab? If it's not sRgb or Adobe RGB the prints could look terrible. If they were please put the exact image as you send it to the lab online and post a link.

Read Rene's thread, that will set you straight.

Seriously? Are you sure that's exactly what they said? (The devil can be in the details)
If they did, they are nitwits.

You don't set your monitor profile *anywhere* in PS.

They are (more) right.

Oh, and I moved this to "RAW, Post Processing and Printing" ;)

You did talk to one of their experts, not the office cleaner, or worse, the Sales Manager?

In my own experience X Rite and Greta McBeth have been superb when I've had problems.

Have Bay Photo offered you an icc profile for their printer? With that it should be possible to adjust the image in soft-proofing so you don't get any nasty surprises.

Thank you ALL for setting this straight! I greatly appreciate you guys. Yes, I am 100% sure the Pantone guy said "embed your monitor profile into all files that you send to your lab". His name is John at Pantone. He was very adamant about his advice too.
Now, let me say this.... when I told him that I had to turn my monitor brightness to "0" during calibration and it still would not get down into the acceptable range, he advised me to call X-rite tech support for upper level help. So I did. I spoke with a guy named Bruce. I told him that John advised me to embed my monitor profile into my files and he said "Uhhh...NO. Do NOT do that."
So, YOU guys are correct too!
To fix the problem with having to turn my brightness all the way down to "0", he advised me to turn my RGB settings (on the monitor itself) from 100 to 75, then try the brightness calibration again. I did just that and it worked perfectly and I was able to get a perfect range of brightness when set to 86.
Now, I just have to figure out how to "fine tune" my monitor in case my prints are a little "yellow" and my screen is more "peachy and red". That's the problem I had a few days ago before re-doing all these calibrations.
Thanks again guys.
Danny

I'd remove that guys full name, even though he's probably incorrect it could get you or the forum operator (pekka) into trouble. Probably not, but i'd play it safe.
