I would appreciate some advice on which way to proceed.

I have 2 Canon 5D Mk IIs one which I use for all types of photography, and one which I keep for back up. I use this camera predominantly for wedding and wildlife photography.

However, I am thinking of trading in one of the Mk IIs towards the 1D Mk4. I would then use the 5D Mk 11 for weddings and portraits, with the 1D Mk4 as backup, and then use the 1D Mk4 for my wildlife and bird photography.

What I have been finding is that the Mk II is taking a little bit of battering and I am getting dust and debris in the viewfinder and on the sensor. My thinking is that the weather sealing on the 1D Mk4 would be much better suited to wildlife and bird photography.

Any comments on how sensible a move this would be much appreciated.

From what i've read, it seems like you are not going to use 1d4 too much even if you got it. I won't comment on the pictures and quality because i've only use 5d2 a few times. But if 1d4 is going to collect dust, and only use in very limited occassion, it doesn't seems like very economical to do. Unless you don't mind dropping that extra 3k. why not go get the 1d3 instead for a much cheaper set up for a good backup camera.

Thanks very much for the comments. If we are not doing weddings I spend a large amount of time out photographing wildlife and birds therefore the 1D Mk4 will get as much, if not more use, than the 5D. Also the complete weathersealing of the 1D Mk4 is a big plus in this instance.

The only thing I have been hesitant about with the 1D Mk4 is the 16mp, wildlife pictures need to be cropped and I am just wondering if this is going to be a downside to using it predominantly for wildlife photography.

I recently had to strip out the viewfinder of the 5D Mk II to get some dust out, it is an experience that I am not in a hurry to repeat.

I thought about the 1D3, but have used the video a number of times on the 5D ii to record wildlife.
