I was at the zoo the other day shooting with my 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 and the front 'plastic ring' that surrounds the end of the glass popped off. I looked at it and one of the tabs was broken, in trying to figure out how to get it back on, another tab broke.

Is this something that can be easily fixed or can I order that part? If I can, does anyone know where I can pick it up? It didn't look like it was crucial to the structure or sealing of the lens, so I'm hoping its not enabling my glass to get dirty. Will try and post pictures when I get home later if this doesn't make sense.

Contact Canon service dept. They can tell you if the part is available, how much it costs and if it's a DIY fix or if you need to send the lens in for repair. Some of those trim rings are glued on, others screw-on and still others just snap on. I don't have the 10-22 so am just speculating that ring might help retain the lens hood and/or be threaded to accept filters.

Assuming you are in the US, Canon has service departments in New Jersey and So. California... pick the one closest to you and give them a call.

That front piece just snaps on around the front element. I examined a friend's 10-22 that took a drop (it's misaligned inside so the right side of the frame is now wider than the left) and she'd be lucky if that front piece was all that got damaged... it's probably just for dust/glare so if your lens works OK, I'd just try to order that part from Canon and snap it back on yourself. Make sure there aren't any fragments inside your lens from whatever broke.
