ideal setup:

2 canon flashes + 40D

1 off shoe or something like that (holding in my hand etc)

1 on the camera

what would be the easiest way to have these both sync when taking a pictures

problem is, how can i make this setup work by wireless?

i have cactus v4 as well but thats only used when i have both camera's off the the camera

any help please?

Can't you connect catus trigger to the pc sync port on your 40d? So one flash on camera hot shoe, other triggered by cactus through the pc sync port. Simple.

You can also use the built in canon wireless if you are not shooting more than 20 to 30 feet away.

Yep.....Problem will be what do do with the transmitter....Some folks rig up some velcro to connect the transmitter to the camera body.

But Cactus does provide you with a cable to go from the pc sync port on the camera to the transmitter.

Use a 580EX as master and a 430EX as slave.

Edit: Ah, you already have the 2 430EX's?

In that case: Bij "wireless" do you mean: including ETTL capacity? Or just triggering the flashes (set to manual flash)

Here's a thread comparing different triggers: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=953773
Here's another: https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=953196

Add a 580ex11 or a ST-E2. That way you have the option of ETTL or manual plus HSS.
