Hey all, I hope someone will be able to answer this ???, I'm looking for a wireless remote control for my 20D. Does anyone know where I can get one. I've the RC-1 for the rebel and 10D. I'm not dure if that will work with the 20D. But I doubt it will.

I'm just in the process of building my own - I've set myself a budget of NZ$100 (US$70)
Start with an Adidt M1 remote cord, splice in an inline mini-headphone jack/socket to connect to the wireless bit and go from there. RF unit is pretty small, transmitter fits on a keyring.
Based on this article: http://www.siliconchip.com.au/cms/A_30548/article.html (external link) but with 5volt relays and will run on a BP-511 battery
It looks promising so far, I'll post more details when it's finished if anyones interested.

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:
TF posting: here :-)

I purchased the Adidt R3 remote, which works both as wireless and as a wired remote controller for my 20D. I purchased one from someone in California, who advertises a 100m distance wireless remote on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com …50489QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem (external link)

Similar products sold by others (one of whom is in China). Be aware that different range models of the Adidt exist, 30m 100m 250m

I have the RC-1 remote for my Digital Rebel, and find it very useful for bird photography, group photos for which I wish to include myself, and reducing vibration for tripod shots. I was surprised when I went from the G3 to the Digital Rebel to discover that a wireless remote was not included in the basic package as with the G-series. When I mentioned this on this forum, several veteran members chastised me with "Get used to it. You have to pay for everything with DSLRs." Now I find that not only is the remote an extra cost for the 20D, but there is no built-in receiver, B&H does not keep the remote receivers and transmitters in stock, and the Chinese-built substitute is only available on eBay, has a wacky extendable antenna, and is about half as big as the camera itself. In this free fall from things mechanical to things electronic, it seems strange that the wireless remote would be a forgotten piece of the set.

<the Chinese-built substitute is only available on eBay, has a wacky extendable antenna, and is about half as big as the camera itself>

It is a major exaggeration that the Chinese unit is 'half as big as the camera itself'. The Adidt R3 receiver is about 4" long, about 1.5" wide, and about 1/2" thick; the transmitter is about 2.5" long, about 1.5" wide, and about 3/8" thick (all measurements are not actually measured, but from recollection). I fit it into a Lowepro 'cell phone case' attached to the side of my camera bag.

One has the also keep in mind that the buyer of the P&S often has very different, and usually less demanding, needs than the purchaser of the DSLR. P&S owner wants to stand 15' in front of a camera with his/her family and be in the picture in front of the Bellagio hotel and trigger it with an IR unit that is hopefully not overpowered by the sun. The DSLR owner could be triggering the camera from 150'-300' away, out of danger or so as to not 'spook' the animal they are trying to shoot using a radio signal which is reliable in all conditions. A trannsmitter/receiver on the longer range device can have electrical drain that forces the use of bigger batteries and bigger antennas.
