If ancient 30D is still good enough for National Geographic why upgrade your camera?

Maybe the story is on an ancient 30D that they found during a recent archaeological dig?

I am satisfied with my 30D that I have had for over 4 years already. The only option I want that the camera doesn't have is microadjust, I just don't want to bother with sending lenses in to get calibrated. For my purposes of sharing photos online and printing a max size of 8x10 8MP is plenty of resolution. Upgrading lenses before bodies makes sense from both a photographic and economic standpoint. My 30D has lost about $600 in value since I bought it, while my lenses are worth about what I paid for them years ago.

Good for you, Phil! I spent many good hours and came out with some nice shots with my 30D! Actually, I loaned it to my son long-term, but now it's back here, sometimes I grab it for one thing or another!

Either it's a sign that the 30d is still a good camera, or NG likes free photos. I agree with one of the previous posters, you got paid right?

I still love my 30d by the way. Nice photo.

Congratulations !!! I was recently contacted through Flickr myself by an organisation who make electronic maps advertising cities around the world, and their local attractions. They shortlisted and eventually picked one of my shots to use, advertising my capital city.
I HAD NOTHING !!! Did I care, no, I was chuffed for my pic to be selected and have my name accreditated to it. National Geographic is a totally different world to the organisation who used my picture, you must have been ecstatic !!!!! Now, no offence, but your gear make you sound like me. An amateur snapper who funds his hobby fairly well. I dont take pictures for money. I take pictures for fun. You've achieved what many full time pros can only dream of, and, I suspect the people who ask if you were paid would have said YES PLEASE if National Geographic wanted their pic for free. If you were paid then well done, but I suspect when you were contacted money was the last thing on your mind.
Congratulations again !!!

No Friggin way would I give my image away for free to a company that's worth millions and millions of dollars. Prestige of having been published doesn't pay the bills and will not get you more work. In fact you'll be asked again to provide more images for free as you established that you images aren't worth anything.

WOW, really ???
Well I certainly admire your principles but, surely having been published in NG, work would come rolling in ??? Rather than render your images as worthless wouldnt that put you in demand instead ???
If you refused that offer, your images are either, WAY better than mine ( not hard at all ) or, you rely on them totally for your income ( which I dont ).:)
