We were hit down here in Miami but it was only a catagory 1 storm. Still though it did cause some trouble.

I feel bad for those in new orleans and surrounding areas. :(

it's strange, here in melbourne australia, we're getting falling trees and people moving winds.
last night (as stupid as it was) we had to move a fridge on a tiny trailer from one end of melbounre to the other, and 3/4 of the way there it almost tipped, the trailer was up on 1 wheel and the car didn't know what to do. i just hit the brakes slowly and it settled down. that was at only 70kph. scared me stiff.

good luck to all involved.

same here
mostly all of what happened and is happening is shown on the tv's over here on every news bulletin
the awful floods , the devastation, the looting . everything as much as is possible which can be shown from the view of a tv camera on the ground (and shots from the air also )
it's very horrible for all concerned.

it is going to take some time to right everything to anything normal again for those who have lost everything
hope the drinking water and electricity etc are all working very soon

:(

also
sympathy goes out to the latest disasters everywhere
(news just in from other places abroad)
:(

All our prayers to those who have been affected. We have lost one of our cities.

I am from the very south of south Louisiana, 60 miles southwest of New Orleans and my family, lots of folks, still all live in the New Orleans - Houma - Grand Isle area. Although they have been spared and are OK, there suffered many material loses; and those are replaceable. I saw an interesting account on one of the networks about "Perils in Paradise" and it was very true. There are many places in the world where humans should not inhabit; southeast Louisiana is one of those. The area from the Mississippi river going westward is "all" river delta and subject to severe changes annually. Man tries to control mother nature in these areas but this hurricane is a profound example that control won't last. The city of New Orleans is devasted and certainlly won't be the same New Orleans that I knew and enjoyed so well.

This entire area needs as much help as they can get. Should any of you be in a position to help in any way, I assure you it will be appreciated.

Thanks for you concerns.

Tiger,. so sorry for your families losses..
Very glad to hear that you know they are safe,. material losses can be devasting too.. needless to say. :( :( I do hope they have not lost everything :(

It's just too huge for it to fully comprehend what they are going through when viewed from a distance ... .

CDS - Thanks for your comments. You are correct, material loses are sometimes large, but never insurmountable if you keep the faith. Its tough to really appreciate this traversty without having gone through it; and I hope none of you ever experience it. I have lost two houses in hurricanes, once while my family and I were in the house and I will never do that again. The things you see and especially the "deafening sounds" are more than is describable.

However, there is always something good out of everything bad. From this kind of experience, you learn a lot about people, their genuine feelings, their caring and even sometimes - their greed. When you loose a lot and receive help, it teaches you how to help others when they are in need, so the benefits moving forward are good.

Thanks very much for posting the Red Cross site on your reply and say a prayer for those left in this mess who have not yet been rescued, for the water is still rising and the end is not yet in sight.

Gene

My thoughts an prayers are also with those going through the hardships in LA.

It will be a long road to reconstruction there, but not impossible I hope.

Thanks for looking!

I really wish I could help physically but this is not an option for me, If a legitimate fund was set up for donations to this tragic event I would gladly donate.

Get hold of the Salvation Army. They do a fantastic job. I found out the hard way when on May 4th, 2003 our business was wiped out by a Tornado. The Salvation Army showed up and fed the crews trying to salvage what we could. That's where my money is going.
