I wanted to see what you all though. Any pro wedding/fashion photographers. I use an Acute 2 1200 w/s kit for studio fashion and editorial/commercial work. I've decided to change my business model to do more Bridal/wedding and fine portraiture work. I need to be mobile for day of wedding formals and carrying around my profoto's is just waaay to much work and dont want the hassle. I'm thinking about selling My profoto gear and going with the Elinchrome's for portability

Go for the Quadra's... that's what i use. Either that or the straight up Rangers.

Used in a lot of these:

Not sure what you mean by portable, but I don't see how the BxRi lights you linked are more portable than what you have. They still monolights that require a wall outlet or a vagabond-style battery back and because they are multi-voltage there are compatibility issues with batteries.

The Quadras that Mumbles mentioned are a better fit for what you want, but are more expensive.

Portable doesn't always mean "Battery Operated".....
Sometimes it just means being "compact" or "light weight" or a "single unit" versus a "Pack & Head System".

As said, the BXRi's won't solve anything - still require AC or a battery pack - and the Acute pack is LIGHT and remarkably small. The pack is only marginally larger than an AcuteB or Quadra pack.

If you want a non-AC system, I'd look at either the Profoto AcuteB (giving you a pack system you're very familiar with and the hassle/cost of swapping your tin, speed rings, etc), a Ranger or maybe a Quadra - or look at a Hensel Porty.

If you want AC but prefer a monolight vs a pack (thus ruling out any battery system), I'd look at the Profoto D1 - cost a bit more, but allow you to keep your modifiers, speed rings.

One strong benefit of the AcuteB (lithium or lead acid) is that you can use an Acute 2 (aka Acute2/D4) head with it - just swap out the modeling light for the ($60 +/-) adapter+AcuteB lower-wattage bulb. Save you some serious $$$ as could just buy a pack - ideally used. The AcuteB pack's socket doesn't have a power supply lead for the Acute2/D4 fan, so it would not drain any battery juice.

BTW, if you decide to sell your Acute2 pack, drop me a line - looking for one.

What The Loft Studios said. I have to carry a light head plus the pack plus a battery. I just recently came across a killer deal for the BXRi's kit and I don't shoot in my studio anymore so I figured I'd sell my profoto stuff and get the BXRi kit plus have money left over for some other stuff. I already sold off my profoto 4X6 ft softbox and my 5" octobox. Now I'd just need to sell the acute kit plus my beauty dish and 2 speedrings. Profoto is great don't get me wrong I still rent the 7b's for major on location shoots but. If I were to keep my profoto gear I don't want to lug it around as it's not meant for that type of shooting. It's a studio set up. Conner999 you got it! hahah

BXRi's are great lights - owned them myself before I went to Profoto. Lots of nice gear out there, just need to find what suits our own styles/shooting circumstances.

On the BXRI - if you swap the stock plastic BXRi swivel handle for the all-metal one from a Manfrotto 026 umbrella mount (it's a straight swap), it grabs like a mutha.

sweet Thanks Conner999 Yeah man I think I may just move these Profoto's to someone with a more stationary shooting situation.
