I was contacted by Renown Heath for a photo shoot that would be featured in a magazine that comes out every four months that features patient stories and testimonials. What they want is 2-3 different poses and one image chosen and retouched for print. Life style and action shot sof the patient with horse ( ie riding the horse standing next to it.)

Their site is http://www.renown.org/body.cfm?id=1584&oTopID=1584 (external link)

I've never dealt with a publication before and don't know how to price for this. Please help :) thanks for your help in advance.

I guess you need to know the volume of distribution...how many are going to view? Then you need to take into account the time it takes you to set-up and shoot and edit. The editing process is probably going to take some time as the editor of the magazine will critique the images until they appear to his/her liking. The key here is you don't want to sell yourself short. If you've ever done a graduation shoot or a engagement shoot, base your price off of that and add more!!

Seems like a basic half day job I would start at $250.

Alright, just spoke with her and sounds like the publication is about 90,000. 250 sounds pretty good to me.

I honestly would not get out of bed for $250, nevermind dedicate a half a day, but that is me.

Are you going to edit the shots too? Do the math to determine if $250 will be worth the time to drive, the hours spent shooting, and the time spent editing. You have some great gear, so you have to consider the resources used, etc. Perhaps start at $500 and see what they say.

PS, you have many nice photos on your site. Nice work and good luck with the shoot.

Canon 5DIII, 7D, 40D, 8-14L, 24-70 f2.8L, 70-200 f2.8L IS, 24L, 50L, 85 f1.8, 100L, 135L, 1.4 Extender, Tokina 16-28 f2.8, and too many lights and accessories to list.

I'll send her a quote this morning and see how she responds, if not then I'll try and adjust. Thanks mate! I hope you meant my flickr, as my site is basically a place holder right now and looks like poo. haha
