IPS Monitor and PC Recommendation

Please help to recommend a budget 22”+ IPS monitor for under $300. I am getting a new PC setup to upgrade from my current antique Pentium4 and want to start out with getting the monitor first.

If you know of good components combinations that go around $700, please also recommend. I am trying to stick with Pentium as I had bad experience with AMD in the past.

Any advice or direction from you is greatly appreciated.

Dell U2211H or U2311H (the later has a list over $300 but frequently sells for less).

Look for a Dell refurb that has something like an Intel i5 650, 4 or more GB of RAM, 750GB hard drive.

If you have a MicroCenter, you can pickup a refurbed HP Pavilion HPE-257C. Great system. I recently purchased it.

A co-worker who is up to date with PC components knowledge help me out with this list for for $580 + tax & shipping.

I am planning to spend 1K even for new PC and Monitor (Dell U2311H IPS type ~$300)
so I asked him to improve a few things (in blue):
Full size case for better air flow
6G or SDRAM instead of 4G
MB that support 6G SDRAM

You don't need anything close to a 650W power supply. Save a few bucks and get a 500W one (or even a bit smaller). Take the money you'd save and put it towards a Caviar Black HD.

Agreed; that 650W is intensely overkill. I'd say even a good 80+ Seasonic 350W unit would suit you just fine. With the money saved, I'd upgrade your HDD setup to a 1TB Caviar Black system drive ans 2TB Caviar Green storage drive.

Yeah, get a lower-rated power supply, and ditch the Caviar Green...that is seriously slow for a boot drive. Get a Blue or Black for a boot drive. Get at least two drives so you can separate data from boot and applications.

As others have said, you don't need a 650W PSU. Get something with less power unless you are just getting a killer deal on the 650. Something around 400W is sufficient for your system. Go Caviar black for the HDD.

Look at the Antec 300 case or a CoolerMaster Centurion.
Go to 8GB of RAM for the i5 line of CPUs. For 6GB you would have to buy a 2x2GB kit and a 2x1GB kit. That will cost similar to an 8GB kit.
For mobo, check out ASUS or Gigabyte.

I have the Antek Three Hundred ATX case for my new PC. It's a really nice box that stays very cool and has plenty of room for future upgrades. The interior layout, including fans, is pretty similar to the Nine Hundred which is twice the price. It's just less flashy

Two drives sounds much better than one drive for me as well as I hate to keep OS all together with storage. It’s painful to move data when the OS needed to be baselined.

This is too much to rebuild, but I am still working on it though.
