i just messed around in the space that will some day soon hopefully will be my new home studio. i have no backdrops. my lights are interfit, shooting in this shot through an umbrella high camera left.

trying to get that fashion grey feel, my walls and floor are white.

she was already standing pretty far from the wall, is there something else i can do to get the background to go darker, but still keeping her well lit?

no expert but, take the highest sync speed of your camera and use a smaller aperture like F10 and take her longer away from the wall and choose more power on your flash to compensate for the aperture.


Easier if you posted the exif files :)


Edit: if there are windows in the room, hang something over them so you dont get any light coming through the windows.

i thought the highest sync speed on the 5d was 1/100 but i read just now that it is 1/200 which is awsome.

i dont know how to fix my exif :( any help would help

Hi,
I know nothing about portraits and are all better than I would do but like the poses in the first 2 :-)

re exif, I use the browser plug-in exif viewer which adds an option 'view exif image data' to the right click in Firefox. It seems to be embedded in the files but I think tomme may be saying it would be easier just to have this at the top of the image.

Also, suggest you give your sensor a clean as that spot of dirt in the top right is pretty noticeable for f13.

wow i cant believe i missed that huge spot, will definitely need to be give the sensor a good cleaning real soon. but im scared to break it, sadly the only place that does these things is about an hours drive away.

LOL. the first time is the worst, you never know it might blow away with a decent blower.
