Im really sorry if this is an old question asked many times.

I have been doing part time social event photography / and basic real estate photography for 4 years now and I have always just used the dslr canon software to upload my raw images and then make a few alterations such as rename files / change exposure settings etc / convert a raw batch into jpegs then give to client.

Its simple post production for me.

But NOW - i want to become just a tad more organised and be a bit more playful in post production in terms of altering occasional photos and just being more organised and being able to manilpulate raw files with more options as raw files.

I guess I am wanting advice on if between these 3 products what is the best one for me?

LIGHTROOM 3
PHOTOSHOP 5
ELEMENTS 9

Please not, money is not an object. all i care about is being able to streamline my post production work and keep it simple but have more options with organising my folders / renaming files / manipulting raw files with more options than just the canon software.

I dont want to be overwhelmed with a full suite so im thinking either lightroom 3 or elements 9 or should i use both for different reasons?

Organized and simple(er) yet still extensive post, LR3.

Post processing with some organizational features, Bridge/CS5 (they come together).....knock yourself out in terms of what you can do in post.

You can download 30 day trials from Adobe.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

LR3 is obviously the choice for an event photographer. Photoshop is much more concentrated. LR allows you to batch edit and organize. LR does *most* of what Photoshop will do in terms of PP.

If money is not an opject, why not get Photoshop CS5 + LR3? They complement each other, so its hard to say get LR3 but don't bother with Photoshop. Obviously though, LR3 is the first must have.

You need to study the differences of both rather than worry about which to get based on user opinions.

If you buy them both at the same time, I think they stll give a $100 discount.

Download the LR trial. If you find you can do all the editing/processing you need within LR, then you don't need to spend the extra buck on CS5.

I find LR is sufficient for the editing/processing I do.
