Not sure if all the 24-70's are like this one. I originally thought I had one of the 7D with focusing issues, but found that stopped down to almost anything past f/2.8, the sharpness increased dramatically. In most cases that I've shot with it so far for portraits/closeups, f/4 is the magic number for balance of sharpness and nice bokeh.
