Hi all,

Looking for your thoughts on this.... I'm ready to upgrade from my 7 year old Rebel XT and am considering the 50d or 60d. I mainly shoot landscapes and my kids (not really in action though). My lenses include the Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro, Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 Dii (non VC), and Canon 55-200mm. I appreciate your thoughts!

-Seth

I just did this research and landed on another Rebel. The T2i. It has many of the attributes of the new 7D but costs only $700. Of course you need to research the details to make your own decision.

Well for landscapes why not the 5Dmkii?

50D is fine. I think going from an XT to a 50D will be more than satisfying.

His lenses don't really lend well to full frame use, 2 out of 3 aren't compatible. And the 5D2 really is in a completely different league price wise, especially with new lens purchases. I also have a Rebel XT only and would go for a 60D, it's much better feature wise, compared to the 50D, only real negatives being the plastic body compared to magnesium (better still than the XT) and the reduced frame frate (yet again better than the XT).

landscapes = articulating screen could come in handy

kids= video would be a real bonus

I think for anyone with an older camera such as the XT or 20D/30D a 60D would be a nice upgrade. It's a good price IMO for a new camera. There are reasons why the 50D is good but a long list of reasons why to get a 60D instead. Perhaps consider the Rebel T2i as well if you don't need the speed.
