Hi,
I'm starting to plan my year out, visiting Sinai Desert, Himalayas, South-East Asia or India.
Of course, the trip will be an ideal opportunity for me to get some photo/video material.

I'm thinking about gear, but at the moment i'm also thinking about what to carry gear in!

What I'll most likely be taking:
- Canon 7D
- 28-135mm
- Sigma 30mm 1.4

I want to be able to keep the bag in my large rucksack, else I know it'll get lost, so it needs to be compact.
Also I need to consider safety regarding theft. It would be ideal if the bag were quite inconspicuous.

I'd be thankful for any ideas, even if isn't even designed for cameras! (My brother travelled the far east with his camera in a lunchbox)

lens pouch + some kind of body padded neoprene thing that wraps your camera (with your larges lens in size) and toss it in your backpack. I'm sure you have enough clothing in your rucksack to pad the camera as well.

The lunchbag idea would be pretty decent too

Ah a shootsack? I thought of that actually. Only thing is I'd rather keep it all in one, especially as I'll only have 1 unattached lens.

I was looking at some domke bags which seem like normal shoulder bags, although rather pricey

Domke F-802 is what I use. It very nice and can handle a lot of action. Not expensive compared to a shootsac.

My children and grandchildren are the reason, but it's the passion that drives me to get the perfect image of everything.

Does it feel well made? Nice comfortable materials? Could it last being dragged around mountains and deserts :p

The only concern is that it is not weather sealed. If I were you, I'd consider the F-2 bag. It will last you forever and it is wonderful. Get a strap pad no matter what bag you get, though.

I've dragged my Domkes around mountains, deserts, airshows in the US and Europe (with attendant wind-blown debris from propwash), ancient ruins, the Galapagos, and assorted other places where they've been exposed to rain, wind, wind-blown sand, snow, sea spray, heat, cold, crowds, animals, and most other hazards you can think of and both the bags and the gear inside them came through with flying colours. My oldest one dates back to close on 30 years ago and my sister has one only a couple of years newer and they're both still going strong.

I have a Lowepro classified 140 for my 30D and my 28-300mm, and maybe one smaller lens or flash.\

I'd probably like the roomier 160, but the 140 fits in the front pocket of my work backpack so I can tuck it in there on flights or when I want to store it.
