Being Canadian I want to try to work on the conversion and save some loons and toons.

Dealers, who get certain privileges for selling Canon stuff, would lose those privileges or the Canon line, for advertising below this price. The original concept of MSRP and street price (ie well below MSRP) does not apply any longer. See how B&H has the "email us for better price" on some items - it's to get around "advertising" their selling price. This "special" price only comes into play when the initial flurry is over and they think the can make more money by higher volume/lower price...
