Who has switched from the XT to the 20D - was it worth it?

And why please?

I am doing a lot of event / concert shooting and I saw an article in Popular Photography mag. [May or June] that indicated the 20D focuses quicker and more accurately than the 20D, especially in low light as well as noticeably less noise at 1600 [not that the XT is bad].

Wonder for those that have switched from XT to 20D whether they found this to be true and otherwise, consider the 20D worth the price difference.

I found it true on the "focus more accurate"
but not noticably quicker.. also the noise level is very comparable.

I have found the auto focus more accurate and it's also much much easier to manual focus the 20D. The 20D also feels more ballanced with a larger lens, such as the 70-200/f4.

I dunno... I played with them both at the store for like 2 hours. Choose the one I thought right for me. Can't imagine wanting to switch.

Same here.

I have yet to put a 70-200 on my XT yet. Time will tell.

How is it easier? Set your lens to manual and turn the focus ring on the lens, what does the camera have to do with it?

Here's a thread I started on upgrading from the 300D to the 20D... some good feedback in there. Maybe it will help you with your decision...

the viewfinder is larger on the 20D and also has a brighter focusing screen that allows for more precise MF.

Lol, I seriously thought the same thing as well. "Why would the camera make a difference in MF?? Isn't it the lens..." Thanks for clearing that up.

And as for the XT vs the 20D I have yet to hold a 20D so I couldn't realy tell you. (and I don't want to for the sake of my bank acct ;)) But as for the lenses, The biggest one I have right now is the 70-200mm f/4, and it feels very comfortable sitting on my XT. I don't know maby the 20D does a better job of balancing, but I've had no problems with the XT's sense of balance fitted with a large lens.
