Too bad you didn't react and track the kayaker. It might have made a compelling action shot. You could have gone back to the pristine river shot after he passed. It wasn't going anywhere.

My problem here was that the kayaker was in and out of the shot in a few seconds (the water was running pretty fast) ... and on the banks of the river there were too many branches and trees to even try and follow him down ... it's one of those times when one is completely unprepared <getting darker quicker, cold weather, never expecting to see anyone in the river at all> - also was using one of those silly gorillapod for the tripod - so my camera was completely encumbered <if that makes sense
