Can't thank the Public Affairs office at El Centro enough for the hospitality and access they grant to approved groups of photographers. Looking forward to a return visit in the spring and some other things through their auspices.

C&C Always Welcome! Enjoy!!

Thanks Les... Didn't nail 'em all but I did get a few. Found myself a little too tight from time to time if they didn't put it right on the 3 wire!

Prowlers were damn impressive. Massive aircraft!

Very nice, in fact may be too nice, think you should be banned so I don't keep getting jealous :-)

Thanks...!

A "Color Bird" is a Navy or Marine Corps aircraft or helicopter painted with the squadron logo in full color instead of the usual tactical grey (aka "Low Viz") manner. They are traditionaly the "00" buzz number in the squadron which is the CAG (Commander Air Group) aircraft.

They're generally done as "showcase" aircraft to show "esprit de corps" and to boost morale as a point of pride for that squadron.

If you hang around Navy or Marine Corps Air Stations much, you'll see them from time to time. AFAIK, every squadron will eventually have one in the very near future (if they don't already) as it's the 100th anniversary of Naval Aviation!

This was one we saw at Nellis AFB during a Red Flag operation:

Ok, so I'm not sure if it is impressive or uber-nerdy that you actually got prop blur on the under-wing stores (is that some of the electronics jamming gizmos?) I guess I'll go with impressive. LOL. Nice work as always Jay!
