I'm not gonna hide the fact that this is complete brag thread, but I'm so excited I just have to tell people...

I took a bunch of pictures after 2 blizzards hit the Baltimore area in February of this year and have had them on flickr ever since. I got an email from someone at Baltimore Magazine asking if they could use one of my pictures for a story on the blizzards. I was excited, but disappointed because they picked one that I don't really like (or, at least, it's not even close to my favorite).

Here's the one they picked:

On Friday I got a frantic email from the same lady who had contacted me before telling me they want to use another picture for the Table of Contents but they need it within an hour. Another one of my pictures, near the front of the Magazine? Sweet! And, as icing on the cake, they actually picked one that I like:

It's gonna be so incredibly cool to see my pictures and name in a (regionally) popular magazine.

I don't think it's a bad picture or anything, I just wish they chose one of my post-apocalyptic HDR pics, like this one:

Thanks!

Yeah I really wish I could've suggested some alternatives to them, haha.

Those are great, congrats!

If you don't mind me asking a slightly off-topic question, is there anything special you do with your pics so that people scouring the web will find them on flickr? The way they are named perhaps? Just wondering, feel free to ignore me and keep bragging on your two-for-one magazine excitement! :D

I add my pictures to tons of groups and also tag them in a very detailed manner. I think naming the picture appropriately and having even just a short one sentence description also helps.

If you have a pro account, you can see where the hits are coming from. I get a pretty decent amount of search engine hits (maybe 25/week). It'll also tell you what people searched for on flickr to find your photo.
