I personally love shooting directly into the sun and getting a little bit of lens flare, let me know what you guys think.

Can you talk a little about technique for doing this? I really like this effect.

There was no post processing done to this, I shot it in full manual mode and the focus was on the piece of wood on the side. I used my 24-70mm lens for this shot. I can share some more info but I would have to dig up the exif.

Thanks, I guess what I am asking is to get a good flare do you generally stop down the lens or shoot more open? fast or slow shutter? I have tried and I have not been really happy with the flare effects I get.

Ah, I see what you mean. Well this was shot at f/2.8..I'll check the shutter speed and get back to you.

You and I have a different interpretation of what "a little bit" means.

I like the flare effect personally.
It may be a dumb question but isn't it bad for the camera to point it directly at the sun? I'm sure someone told me that once...

It's def. not good and I guess it all depends on your glass. I shouldn't get carried away with it!

Remembering all the "how to avoid flare" threads presumably you need to to the reverse i.e. remove lens hood and add some UV filters - or better still shoot through a sheet of picture glass with no multicoating?? :)

Sorry...doesn't do anything for me. I just don't see anything of interest to keep my attention as a viewer...

If 1000 people say nothing because they don't want to hurt your feelings and one person said they liked your image you would get the wrong impression. Pretty much all opinions are worth something to you this is after all an open invitation for criticism and you don't have take notice of it.
