The lens flare is a cool effect. The subject matter, though, doesn't do much for me. I find the landscape more interesting...the stack of wood is very distracting, and not very interesting. Lose the wood and I think it would be a great photo!

Thanks for a helpful comment, you could've just not replied...lol

This is the critique forum. If you don't want an honest opinion, then maybe you should refrain from posting in this particular forum. Maybe I just should have posted "great pic" and let it go at that.

In all honesty, I don't find anything in the image that would want me to continue looking at it beyond the initial first impression. If there was a way, at least IMO, to "save" the image, I would have made a recommendation or two. Sometimes, flare works in an image, depending on the subject matter...in this case, it doesn't. Just not a very compelling subject matter, and the flare exacerbates that fact.

As stated before, you don't post in a critique section to get love. If you want people to say nice things only put it in the sharing section. If you want honest opinions post it here and deal with what comes of it.

I know it is a critique forum and what you said earlier wasn't a critique, its equivalent to not posting a comment...your second comment makes more sense. I rather read that than your first one. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I'm glad you shared yours, I honestly don't want to read "great pic" comments all the time..self improvement is all I seek for.

If 1000 people say nothing because they don't want to hurt your feelings and one person said they liked your image you would get the wrong impression. Pretty much all opinions are worth something to you this is after all an open invitation for criticism and you don't have take notice of it.

There was no critique in his statement and that is why I responded with that, I want to read why someone doesn't like an image...I want to improve my style and reading positive comments usually don't help improve your technique.

Not to drag this out but his first post stated that there wasn't a visually arresting subject in the photo. That is a valid critique. In fact, to me that is the biggest issue I see with almost all photos. If you look at some of the greatest photographers of all time their photos were not technically amazing but the subject was so interesting it overcame the issues with the technical side.

I personally take very technical photos with usually pretty boring subject matter and it kills me. I see other people with no idea what gear they have and no interest in the technical aspect of photography who take stunning images because they have a great eye for art or moments.

I agree and that is all I'm looking for, a comment that will help guide me and others who come to this forum. Comments like "nice picture" or "boring" don't really help anyone...thanks for elaborating.

Where are you getting the "hater" nonsense? The OP asked for an honest critique, and he got one or more. I just don't understand the whole "hate" thing. Let's face it, I doubt this image will be hanging in any gallery any time soon. If you want to buy it and hang it in your house, more power to you. But get off the "hate" nonsense...totally irrelevant.

I'm with argyle. He gave you honest feedback and he told you why he didn't like the photo: no distinct subject in the photo. I tend to agree with him, I'm not seeing where I should be looking. Perhaps the road were more prominent then it would draw one's eye down the road into the bright sun.

I do like the lens flare and think it looks nice.

I would echo the above comments, this is the critique corner, so expect to get critiqued.

What is the subject? Is it the flare itself? Are we critiquing the flare? The only thing that is in focus is the log on the right side. Now if there were a silhouette of a mouse crawling across below the flare, then you'd have an awesome image. I don't mind lens flare if it sets a subject off in a positive way. Generally lens flare is a nuisance IMO. When we make it part of the subject then it really has to actually help and not hurt the subject.

Did you have a filter attached? Usually more filtration contributes to more flare effects.

LOL, I wouldn't hang this up in my house...not every picture is meant to be hung up on a wall or at a gallery...this whole thing is blown out of proportion.
