I went to Southampton to shoot some large liners due to leave at sunset this evening. Unfortunately for my plans they left late, by which time it was darker than I wanted.

I did get a good shot of Queen Mary 2 at the right time, before she departed. This is 1 second at f/5.6, ISO200 with the 70-200/4L on my 40D:

The giant Independence of the Seas finally left and passed Queen Mary 2. By this time I had to whack the ISO up to the 40D's maximum of 3200, to keep the shutter down to 1/8s at f/5.6 on the 17-40L:

That's a great shot of "the Queen"! You had just enough light left in the sky.

Thanks both, much appreciated. Yes, the light in the Queen pic is what I wanted for all three as they departed, but it was not to be. As I live close to Southampton I should have plenty more opportunities when the new season gets underway.
