I first posted this in the Landscape section, but after looks through some threads in there I don't feel it's on par with the other top-notch photos in that thread. I don't know if it's the composition that bugs me, or maybe too saturated. Maybe I just didn't pick the best location to shoot from?
Combined 3 exposures, spent about 30 min. messing with it in Photoshop. I'm still very much a newb to photography so feel free to point out even my most obvious mistakes, I can take it :) I've been using Phtooshop for many years, but never got into photography until very recently and I'm here to learn! :)

I think it's a good shot with a good sense of perspective.
The aeroplane trails are great but the sky is 3 different colours. Is that because of the merged exposures?

I actually didn't notice until you mentioned it, but I see what you mean... might be from the merging, kind of strange. I may try messing with it a little more in Photoshop and try to even out the sky a bit, I kinda wish it was a little more blue at the horizon. Thanks for helping :)

You're welcome.
The shade of blue in the top left hand corner is the best imo.
If you can somehow find a way to make the whole sky that colour whilst keeping the vapour trails it would be better.
There is also an argument for losing one or two of the vapour trails as it might look better with a clearer sky.
Don't lose them all though as some of them are giving the sense of perspective.

hello from another Iowan (in fact from about an hour away)... the crane orange/yellow is a bit intense. You may try desaturating it a little and see if it looks a little better.

Thanks Jimmy, I'll try toning that down a little too in the next revision. I think I have an idea on how to get the whole sky the same blue tone as well.

P.S. I actually live in Cedar Rapids :) We were only visiting Dubuque for the weekend.
I'm jealous of your lenses by the way, I want to get a 70-200mm next but not sure how high up in price I want to go yet... been considering the Tamron 70-200 2.8 but I might keep on saving for a Canon.

I have been on that bridge in the background all too many times. I have some decent glass. I think the 100mm L Macro is my favorite so far.

I think it's a great photo- definitely looks better than when you're driving down hwy 20 and looking at it with just your own eyes ;)

Loving my new camera! I have absolutely NO idea what I'm doing with it,
but giving "hobbyist p

some of that may be related to the loss of fear of veering off the road

I really enjoy the amount of detail in the picture... you can look at it for 20 minutes and still find new things

I think it's a good photo, the reflection really adds to the image.

Thanks guys :) I'm going to try to make some time tonight to make a few tweaks to it.... I really need to get out and find some neat locations around town to practice shooting.

some of the flooded buildings might be nice, and an old railroad bridge in CR... I know they're both there :)
