Diopter adjustment for XT?

While I've been enjoying my XT the viewfinder seems particularly small. Also from time to time I have some difficulty telling if I'm in focus in Manual. Would I benefit from one of the other diopter adjustment that you can buy?

Welcome to the forum archosman!

Do you have a prescription yet prefer to shoot without glasses? If that's the case then getting a diopter for the viewfinder to get you in range of the manual adjustment might be the way to go.

Manual focusing (without relying on the AF indicators) is difficult with cameras such as the 20D or XT anyway because of the style of focus screen supplied with the camera, and the viewfinders are a bit dim, especially if you have a lens that is a bit slow.

No perscription. I've still got pretty good eyes. I was wondering if I would still benefit with another diopter.. but I'm not sure which one I would need. I can see it fine... just wish it was a little bigger.

Not to ask a dumb question, but you have tried the camera's built-in dioptric adjustment, right?

An accessory dioptric adjustment lens won't make the image any bigger - only change it's focus.

Do you mean a focusing screen?
One of those split prism types that replaces the original?
something like this one?
*not spamming but I did get one of these and they do wonders*

The diopter adjustment works well for me. I wear reading glasses but my distant eyesight is quite good.
The problem is that I look through the viewfinder without my glasses to frame/focus, CLICK, then check the LCD to check my histogram . . . and it's all blurry . . . no diopter there.
What's that saying about a rock and a hard place?

On the 350 I believe the diopter adjustment for the viewfinder is just a little knob that you turn on the right side of the viewfinder, but I could be wrong.

Voice of experience here!

The viewfinder's diopter adjustment, or aftermarket eyecups with diopter lenses built into them, are ONLY useful if you already have an eyeglasses prescription and want to use your camera without your glasses. If you put one on your camera when you don't need glasses, it'll make it impossible to tell when your camera is in focus.

I bought a +1 diopter aftermarket eyecup for my A2E, thinking that it'd make the display at the bottom of the viewfinder easier to see (I started needing reading glasses about two years ago). Not only did it not help with that, it made it so I couldn't see anything clearly at all through the viewfinder. If you're looking for something to make the viewfinder's "picture" bigger, I think there are some doohickeys that provide a larger somewhat-magnified view. Look around at Adorama and B&H for eyecups - that's where I remember seeing them.

No personal experience, but I have read that those magnifiers make the view darker. 1 step forward, 1 step back.

Then definitely a diopter is NOT what you need. The diopters or dioptric adjustment that comes with the camera allow a near-sighted user to operate the camera without glasses. It doesn't make the image in the viewfinder larger.

You could use one of these:

but it's kind of expensive. Another option would be to find a used one of these:
