Got this opportunity for an anhinga (snakebird or water turkey) at Lake Seminole Park, Seminole, FL this past Saturday.

I am working on PS skills. On this one, I adjusted the exposure a little and brought up some detail in the shadows. I was surprised anything was there - wet black feathers look really black to the unaided eye and to the "normal" exposure.

300D, ISO 200, 200mm L, f/8.0, 1/320s RAW.

At the first time I saw something like that, I thought it was just a cormorant. Then... wait a second, that isn't any cormorant!

Thanks for the kind comments. I have posted a few pictures, lurked in the background for a lot of the time, and really admired what many of you have accomplished. This was the first time I really worked on bringing up detail in the dark areas. Attached is a 100% crop detail of the left wing. Without any tweaking in PS, it was solid black with no detail.

Dale

Very nice shot for this species. Around the areas here where you can find them they pose on snags along the rivers just about the same as this one, The photoshop work looks great but I think you could bring it up even a little more for the image online as they sometimes darken a little when resized for the web.

I think this bird may be a young one from this years hatch. I don't really like the way the water background appears to start with, and bringing it up the dark areas more just made the background worse! Gotta keep working on my PS skills as well as the composition.

That bird has a very weird texture to its feathers, so it's going to be tough to get it perfect.
