I haven't been here for a while.

I photographed this accommodating Black Bellied Plover last month.

Canon 40D and Sigma 50-500 mm handheld.
Portrait image full frame and secondimage cropped for composition at ~80% of full frame. In the second image the bird was "hiding" after a hawk had flown overhead.

Very nice shots, I like the first one a lot. You must have been laying on the ground to get the shot on the second that you did.

Great shots of this beautiful bird, I especially like the eye glint in the first.

Way to go, Stephen. These Black-bellied Plovers seem to be quite people tolerant and provide some great shooting which you obviously took advantage of. I was lucky enough to photograph some a few weeks ago.

Shooting with more great Canon gear than I deserve.
I don't need a second childhood. I'm not finished yet with the first one.

Thanks for the kind words. Yes I was on my belly for both shots and for many more.

Thank you Michele. Fellow photographer Dan Cadieux and I spent nearly two hours with this bird.

Thanks Harv. This fellow was VERY tolerant. I think that being alone helped since he wasn't getting spooked by other more nervous birds.

Great shots Stephen. I don't think I've seen one laying down before. A lot of one-legged resting but not laying down. I've had similar experiences with solo non-breeding BB Plover, they'll sometimes come over to see what I'm up to but in numbers they're much more cautious.
