I'm just wonder if you guys only sell $$ equipments to buyers that have good feedback and good forum history?

There are always new forum member with 0 post count asked me to sell them stuff. I usually refuse their offer.

I know Paypal always side with buyer and screw over seller when there is a credit card charge back.

Is there anyway to make the transaction safer for the seller?

Sell locally, or sell to a user with a long history of involvement on the forums.

I've been pretty lucky with folks here on POTN. To date I've made 8 purchases and 5 sales with barely a hiccup. That said I've not received unsolicited offers or been contacted by folks with 0 posts so I can't respond to that directly. I hope your experiences moving forward are as good as mine have been. Good Luck.

I don't care about a buyer's feedback. It's easy....no money, no product.

The point he is trying to make is that paypal isn't 100% secure for sellers. The buyer just has to tell paypal or their credit card company that they didnt get your item and paypal usually sides with the buyer. Even if you already transfered funds to your bank account from paypal they can make your paypal balance negative.

This is true, I had someone do that with paypal when I sold a HD video camera before. (not here on POTN, it was actually eBay) but I sold him the camera like new in original box, packed extremely well. He said it was smashed to bits when it arrived, but the outside box was in good condition. Told paypal I sold him a smashed product and they refunded his money. He then sent back what appeared to be a HEAVILY used and smashed up video camera w/o original box. It was the same model camera but definitely not the one I sent him.

yeah, paypal needs to figure something out soon. The scammers are getting much better. Just make sure you document everything when you send the product.

I have sold many expensive items to people with "0" feedbacks. Not only that with almost "0" total posts as well. The key is to get comfortable - I usually talk over the phone to figure out and sometimes I don't even need to do that, just the e-mails.

I would much prefer to sell to a long standing member with good feedback, but ultimately there's no guarantee with any transaction that's not cash and face to face. As a seller you can add some protection by shipping insured and with signature upon delivery.

I had no problems buying, maybe because i'm an active poster, but I was buying items with out feedback in the beginning. It could also be how anal I am about getting the seller their money ASAP. If I message a seller about their item for sale the money is in my paypal/bank account ready to be sent.

Most transactions here go very smoothly. If a buyer has 0-2 posts, I would be reluctant selling him any high priced item. I dont care as much how much feedback they have, but they should be a long standing member here. For large transactions, I would often like to have a phone number. Honestly, I have sold a bunch on Craigslist also. Call me paranoid, but even that is not safe. You can get robbed, or be given fake 100 bills. Besides you have to go through the hassle of meeting up with someone.
Fortunately, In selling and buying a bunch of stuff here, I have not had a bad experience, all excellent, and one just O.K. (a little annoying, and that was because I ignored my instinct) and the annoying one was with an established member with a bunch of feedback. so go figure.

glad I ran across this post. I never really give a thought to paypal screwing me as a seller if a buyer complains without merit.

I will from now on.

Just bumped across this thread right after I posted something for sale. :)

I guess, I won't be getting any buyers. :(

Anyway, like you guys, honestly, I too would have second thoughts buying high priced items from non-long standing members (like myself) unless it's a local sale.
