hey folks, i put my new 70-200 MKII lens on my 7D. couldn't change some settings, such as aperture and ISO in Av mode, then i couldn't change shutter speed or ISO in Tv mode. removed lens, cleaned contacts with eraser, worked fine after that, turned camera off, then back on, same glitch thing again. changed lenses from MKII to 1755 IS, worked fine, turned camera off then back on, got the glitch again with the 1755 IS.

i have a Zeikos grip on it, with oem battery and sterlingtek battery, never had this problem before until i attached the 70-200 MKII lens.
maybe it'll clear up?

thoughts?

Have you tried removing and reinstalling the battery pack? Happened to me once with the 24-70. Removed and reinstalled battery, problem has yet to recur.

i did remove the batteries, but only one at a time, (with the power off)
i t didn't just happen on tyhose modes i mentioned, i also tried auto and manual and had a glitch of some setting that wouldn't change. i'll keep an eye on it, of course, and see if it happens more often.
i cleaned the contacts, but not the ones on the camera. i was thinking maybe some machine oil could have been on the contacts?

i'll take both batteries out a inspect the contacts in camera.

I was getting po'd that I couldn't change the aperture in M - just the shutter speed. Then I noticed that and felt like a moron.

i just turned the camera on and it is okay, so i'll monitor it, maybe it'll clear up.

just wondered if anyone experienced this with their 7D in particular. if it happens again, i'll try it without the grip, but i can't see it being that, but with the circuitry of the 7D, it wouldn't surprise me.

Try making sure that the wheel on the grip is not in between clicks. Sometimez those grips can be a hazard without anybody knowing it.

Don't use the eraser to clean the contacts... Use a small, clean cloth dampened with a few drops of isopropyl alcohol instead.

With a new lens there might be some oils on the contacts, either from manufacturing or finger oils from handling. Erasers are made from... you guessed it... vegetable oils. Not likely to remove oil from the contact. OTOH, rubbing alcohol will. Works on battery and grip contacts, too.

This might just be the Zeikos grip and it happened to malfunction when you put the 70-200 on the body. My Zeikos grip freezes the settings every so often, luckily it hasn't caused me to miss a shot.

Interestingly enough, I too use the Zeikos grip...
