580ex problem : pilot light charged, cannot fire

Hey guys. The other day I dropped my 580ex (i know!) and broke a connector off inside the foot circuit board. I replaced the foot with a new circuit board, and I still can't get the flash to fire. The flash turns on, charges up, goes RED for full charge, yet when I press the PILOT button to test fire the flash it doesn't fire. Also when I put the flash on the camera it does not fire. If anyone has any idea on what could've happened on the drop and any ideas I would greatly appreciate where to start, opposed to having to send it to canon (last resort). Thanks guys!

Sounds like there might be a wire loose someplace.

That's the full extent on my electrical expertise!

I'm peaking around in there and everything seems to be connected.

I dropped my 430EX onto concrete a year or two back and it broke the mounting...I unscrewed the foot plate bit and gave it a liberal dose of superglue and all was well! Fortunately for me there was no major component damage, mostly cosmetic.

Hopefully someone more tech savvy than me will be along shortly to give better advice!

broken flash tube?

I had the same problem a few weeks ago, sent it to Canon. The receipt said "The flash HEAD(LAMP) assembly was replaced" They charged the $110.00 usd flat repair fee plus shipping.

yep, broken flash tube. Been there. sorry
