Since I don't exactly have a collection of Canon lenses... (Ti1, 50 1.8 and 70-200 f4/L)

If I were to get the Nikon D7000 instead of the 7D, is there a Nikkor lens that would complent in the same manner?

Shouldn't you be asking this question on some Nikon Forum?

Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR II.

I have had the 70-200 VR II on a Nikon D3s..

The canon version is better if you are doing portraits because its MFD is much better.

The IQ and sharpness is pretty much the same. Maybe the canon is a notch sharper at 2.8.. but not much..

Best regards

Palna

Also keep in mind that while producing good IQ, the Nikon has very severe focal breathing...while the Canon at its MFD and set to 200mm is around 172mm (source: Photozone (external link)) true focal length, the Nikkor is actually ~130mm when set to 200mm and focused to MFD

you can ge VRI if you want... theres refurbs at adorama right now for 1.8k (im not sure but somewhere around).
P.S. both 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II and 70-200mm f/2.8 VRII have about the same sharpness @ 2.8.
I dont find canon one any sharper than nikon or nikon any sharper than canon at that point.
(speaking as a user of both)
YOU ARE ALL BIASED!!! lol

Canon's lens is 10 to the 5th Magnitude sharper because Canon has 2 "n"s in its name and Nikkor only has 1.

Couldnt the nikon forum say the same thing if you asked over there.

From what i have gathered through reading is that currently nikon has better short focal length lenses while canon has better telephoto and a bigger selection of primes. The 2 lenses you mentioned both seem to be about equal with the edge prob going to canon, It is newer after all. (of corse this is what i read on canon forums) Another thing to consider is that sigma lenses work really well on nikon cameras. With the current release of canon bodies compared to nikon bodies its hard to not consider a switch. in fact most companies outside of canon seem to have released some well thought out camera bodies.
