connected it to usb .. recognized G9.

clicked on EOS utility....

camera shooting.remote setting blocked out ( can't click )

btw using a 5d USB cable ( lost g9 cable ) - should not be an issue ( not sure )

I wanted to try to do shooting like the pros. click on cam the pictures appear on laptop for focus check and larger version of photo for clients/me to see...

I like that I can click using the shutter button of g9 and able to press a key on laptop to take picture...

anyone?

wish that it can be achieved using say canon free software + CS5 or at least LR.

btw, searched the forums with "g9 tethered " only a few hits turned up and no clear description on how... ( step by step )

I believe EOS utility is not part of the software supplied with the G9.

Probably you need to use ZoomBrowser and Camera Window.

I have a Pro1 that came basically with the same software as the G6.

Open ZoomBrowser and, with the camera connected to the computer, in the Tasks pane (left column), under Acquire & Camera Settings, click Connect to Camera (Do not click Connect to EOS camera).
When CameraWindow pops up, select the remote shooting tab and click on 'Start Remote Shooting'
You can control the camera using the RemoteCaptureTask window.

The previewed image is relatively small, but you will see it bigger once it is automatically transferred to the computer after pressing the Release button.

If you got the Canon CDROM with your G9, then the program you want is called 'RemoteCapture DC'.

On my Vista system, this program is found in the Start Menu:
Canon Utilities >>> CameraWindow >>> RemoteCapture DC 3

With the G9 turned off and your computer turned on, plug in the USB cable. Turn the G9 on (for shooting). Nothing will happen, other than you will see the power-on light. Lens stays closed.
Now launch your program.

The Readme file will say something about not using Mode Dial... and some other cautions.

You may be able to download the 'Software Users Manual' from canon sites.

(I do not know if ZoomBrowser EX has a way of launching that program or feature).

Enjoy.

Oh... power-off the G9 before pulling the USB cable out (just a precaution).

Besides the Canon-provided sftw, other people recommend Breeze Software for the same purpose. $$

It's explained on page 32 (Windows version, page 64 for the Mac) in the Software Starter Guide that came with my G9.

Some time ago I had issues when EOS and powershot software co-existed. The latest updates work fine in my XP Pro machine.

There are special instructions for installing ZoomBrowser EX 6.5.1 Updater for Windows Vista / Windows 7. Read them before clicking the download button. There are no special warnings or instructions regarding 64 bits support.

Some segments of Canon software, like Remote Capture Task that is launched from Camera Window, have only the uninstall icon in the start menu. The Camera Window which is a stand alone program, has a shortcut in the start menu.

under remote capture task...

Mine is under a subfolder named: remotecapture DC 3
In that folder I find the program.

I also have the '...task' folder. And the mentioned uninstall.

Get the Users manual... try canon's euro site.
