Nice captures, and a nice tight formation as well

Is that the Aeroshell guys in borrowed airplanes or is it a different team? Nice work, esp #2.

I spend too much on flying to have much equipment worth listing!

As far as I know, it is their aircraft less one team member and his aircraft.

Nice Series! That is not the Aeroshell T6 Team. They are Red and White with AEROSHELL Written under the wing of the plane.

Yeah, their airplanes are pretty distinct:

7725 is in South African Air Force livery. It would be interesting to know more about that. Anybody know how come?

They were introduced at the show as the Aero Shell team, and the show program also calls them that. That's all I can tell you. To me, the paint on these aircraft looks like a tribute to the various service arms that used the AT6 as a military trainer.

I'll buy the tribute to the armed forces thing. Makes sense. Not sure I'd want to fly close formation aerobatics in "borrowed" aircraft though...

The Horsemen do it all the time. Heck, with how good those guys (The Aeroshell team and the Horsemen) I'd loan them my airplane. Probably safer with them doing low-level formation acro than with me flying straight and level!

Billycan,

The SAAF was the oldest operator of the T-6 beginning in 1940 with the Mk.1. In 1993 they retired their entire fleet of more than 50 aircraft and put them up for sale on the open market. As they were well maintained, the remaining majority were refurbished in the 1950s from the U.S., they became very desirable, and most of them have retained their SAAF markings in the civilian market, thus the one in the abov picture is most likely wearing it's original markings.

I wouldn't be concerned with how they would treat the airplane but if I were one of them, without intimate knowledge of how it's been maintained, I'd be very concerned with how the airplane would treat me!

Another SAAF Harvard on short final at EAA AirVenture:
