A 50L lens calibrated for 5D mkII still soft up to f2 and exhibit ghosting at f1.2 if focus at near distance.

To my surprise the same lens work perfectly on a 1DsmkIII. even at f1.2 it's a lot sharper than on 5DmkII.

I suspect the 1Ds focus more precise than a 5DmkII. even with of center point it's still a tad sharper than the image produced by the 5dmkII.

Thus if there's a defect in 50L, 1ds maybe could help on this. But I just don't understand if the lens exhibit focus shift then it should shown the same symtom in any body?

Is it this lens only work the best on the best body?

What do you guys think of this?

Did you adjust the focus (microadjust) on the 5D2?

It's Canon's secret plan of forcing you to buy their most expensive camera bodies.

This sort of happened to me. My 50 1.4 was soft as hell at 1.4. On my 5Dc it is sharp as hell.

My 50 1.4 is very sharp wide open on my 5d2 so I expected the 50L to be sharper wider then 2.8. Not the case. I tried for a week and I really wanted to like the 50L but I am going to return it.

Yes, that's why I said it's calibrated but a 1Ds just worked perfectly on the fly.
