I just found out about Sugru (http://sugru.com/ (external link)) which is a silicon based product that sticks to most things can be molded into any shape and cures when exposed to air to form a semi rigid silicon rubber.

First thing that came to mind is this could be used in the photography world to do things such as make the grip on your camera a custom fit to your hand.

I am not very imaginative but would be interested to know if anyone has used this and if so what 'hacks' have they done?

If you haven't used it what ideas would you have for making use of this?

That polymorph stuff is pretty hard when set, Sugru however is rubbery. The former would be good for supporting loads (custom brackets) or wear protection, the latter would be good for grip and impact protection.

RISE, thread, RISE FROM YOUR GRAVE!

I received a pack of 12 sugru packets as a gift and can't think of a single thing to do with them. I've looked up some examples and none of them really fit any of my needs.

Has anyone "hacked" anything photographic with their sugru? Other than camera grip (which I don't need), I can't think of anything else.

Ideas, anyone?

Funny this thread should come up again. Not long after posting, I decided to use some of it to add a molded grip to the side of my d700. It fit perfectly and actually made it much more comfortable in my hand.

Up until about a month ago, when the sugru grip started peeling off of the d700 grip. I eventually just yanked it off, rather than have it peel off bit by bit.

Apparently when their site (external link) says Sugru will "last and last," they mean "eight months."
