Zoom knob becomes stuck after some time of non-use

Hi Guys,

I have Fujifilm F200EXR camera. I didn't use the camera for 3-4 months but when i took it out today the Zoom know had become stuck...After applying force its become moving once again, but its lost its smoothness...i have to apply more than normal force to zoom in or zoom out on the knob and as a result zoom has become jumpy also...

I think it may have been due to rusting/corrosion in the knob its behaving like that...Any quick remedy to fix it instead of going to the service center...
I was thinking along the lines of putting some lubricating oil or WD-40 around the knob to see if it helps?
