What's One Step Down From the S90?

Which camera, Canon or otherwise, would be one step down from, or the immediate technological predecessor to, the S90?

i.e. ultra compact, good high ISO and low light capability, preferably can shoot in RAW, and with manual controls.

Ultra-compact is the main requirement. Canon G series and Leicasonic LX3 are too big.

The point is: what's the closest thing to the S90 for less money?

Can't help with any actual suggestions, but in case you find a Canon compact which is otherwise what you want except for RAW, there's always the CHDK (external link) (Canon Hack Development Kit) which enables RAW and some other possibilities that ultra-compacts don't usually have.

You might want to browse through the various SDxxxx models at;

www.powershot.com (external link)

and read the customer reviews until you find one that fits your expectations. A model similar to the S90 is the SD4000 with the f/2.0 lens, but a smaller CMOS sensor. There are other models, but you will have to determine what features and capabilities in image quality you can accept.

If you're considering the S90 and like what you see..you should just buy it. It's a great camera

If you like S90 features and versatility, but concerned about price, you can buy an "Used S90" or "Refurb S90". You can have for about $250 or less. There are couple of them in POTN marketplace.
A Used S90 at $250 produces better image than a "New SD**" at $250.
