Just read an artical in digital photo about the Delkin Pop-up Shade and screen protector http://www.delkin.com …roducts_pop_up_shade.html (external link) and was wondering if anyone has one of these and if they are any good?I currently use my PDA screen protectors cut down to size and they seem to do the trick but would like to know if anybody has one of these and if so how good they are?I know it has been mentioned before but cant find anything in the searches as to how long it lasts for and if the clip on mount is any good.

Cheers

Lately i've been finding i seriously need something like this! The glare and reflections on the screen make it near impossible to judge sharpness (zoomed in or not)
I've experimented by cupping my hands around the screen and it improves things alot

The parent's video viewcam had a similar fold out gadget,it also worked well.
I might try making something out of fabric that pops on and off easily as i don't need the whole screen protection thing (and i'm stingy ;) LOL)

Here is a link to other options if they help

I'm not sure that you can judge sharpness off the screen image even in perfect lighting.

I'll second what Bob said, I can't seem to. I hardly ever look at my captures on the cameras screen, I just wait till I get them onto the computer.

I think i used to be able to...
but then again it could be that i'm fussier now,and i definitely do push the camera to it's limits more these days.

I'll experiment with a home made shade sometime and report if it improves the situation by a usefull amount

Hoodman also makes some camera specific pop-up screen protectors.

I was with an architectural photographer a few weeks ago. I tagged along all day as he took some pictures of a project we'd just completed. He had a rather "retro" idea to view the camera screen. He carried a black cloth, from his 4x5 view camera, to drape over his head and camera!

The reason that it's not useful for judging sharpness is because the LCD only ever displays the small JPEG thumbnail that is embedded in the main files. That same thumbnail is also used for the histogram. I suspect you knew that, but since it hasn't been mentioned thought I'd add my $NZ0.02.

I have got one on my 10d, well the hoodman version, which is basicaly the same. It is qiick good, although I am still getting use to it. I also had a pda film screen on, and still do. It cuts out the glare well enough. I am just finding that I am not looking at my screen as much now. If I am taking a set of shots at the one place. I might look at the first one to check the histo gram although not always, the use do a bit of a review later on when I have a few moments.

I was going a set of photo's for a panoramic and didn't check the screen and as a result the shots were not as good as I hoped due to the exposure range between the sky and ground was to great. If I had checked then I would have looked at a different angle or useed a grad filter to even it out more! still live and learn. They are I think worth while but slightly over priced for what they are.
