Been considering the Canon 100mm f/2.8 macro lens for a while now. Seems like a very fine lens, although I'm not looking for a macro lens exclusively.

I want to use it as a portrait and telephoto lens (probably amount to 50% of my intended use, the rest being mostly close(r) up, and a bit of "true" macro as well). 85mm f/1.8 and 100mm f/2 are not versatile enough and their MFD is just too long (not interested to use ext tubes either).

There's a lot of very good photos taken with the 100mm f/2.8 macro on its dedicated lens thread, but most of them are macro shots.

So show me your best non-Macro (portrait, landscape, action -why not-, etc.) photos taken with the Canon 100mm f/2.8 lens!

I'm sure you guys have some great pictures to share :)

Wow, I looked through my Flickr page and only found 4 photos taken with that lens. I used to use my ef-100 2.8 macro all the time. I ended up selling it to buy the 100mm IS macro and the only photos I have with it are from the day I bought it. What a shame.
Anyway, here's some buttpaste for ya....

Thanks for sharing! A pity you didn't keep your old photos. How did the AF behave tracking little kids? I read mixed review on the AF, some saying it's super fast, others saying it's slow as it is on other macro lenses. I don't need a speed demon when it comes to AF anyway. As long as it locks on and is accurate, I can trade speed off for that.

Ah HA, I remembered that we had a shutterfly account from when my first daughter was born. We set it up so our parents could view/download and buy prints. Here is one of my daughter at about 7 months......

Let's just say it's not a lens I liked handholding and the focusing was quite annoying. Like I said, I sold it to buy the IS 100mm, precisely because it was a pain taking pics handheld indoors. The 100mmL is much better.

Here's a recent landscape shot that I captured with my 100mm macro (non-IS). It's a great lens, although I don't seem to use it all that much. I am more of a standard to wide angle or longer telephoto kind of guy, I guess.

It's not clear to me if you're talking about the non-L or the L version.

I have the L version and I love it! Although I use it mostly for closeups (for which it is obviously intended), I've done a fair amount of general photography with it, and it is a stunningly sharp lens, as sharp (if not sharper) than the 35L I just got, even wide open. The IS is well worth the extra $$$.

I've posted some examples on Flickr.

Non-L version. The USM one, not the very old one either.

Well, that portrait turned out pretty well. Lovely girl.

I have the 85f1.8 and just got the 100 macro f2.8. The macro is a very sharp lens, but I still am likely to grab the 85 if I want to get portraits - on a crop.
