I do enjoy using it for portraits and other non-macro purposes. It's nice to never have to worry about the minimum focusing distance, which I do occasionally run into when shooting people on my 50 1.4.

I have the Canon 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM (Non-IS) and to be honest I have only used it a two or three times at most, and never for anything other than a few macro shots. I'm keen to put it on my 7D (just got it!) and start shooting some pictures!

Here is a recent one of Comet Hartley 2, passing the Perseus Double Cluster (sky colour cast is down to my inexpert processing of the light pollution). Mark.
