Nice series; I especially like #1, nice choice of lens and shutter speed.

That first one is a stunning shot - I just love looking at all the details. I love the colours and the composition. Perfect!

I love your work.

One question. Why do you use "Center Weighted Average" ?

Denny

Thanks for the comment and for putting me on the spot. :)

It's my preferred setting for shooting street and open landscapes. Here's a little explanation directly from Canon that explains my thinking.

BTW, some of these photos were taken using the brand new Adorama Nifty from the "Where's Nifty?" thread in the POTN Member's Activities Forum.

Read the Canon article and this caught my attention.

"If the overall scene is evenly lit and of generally even brightness, then Center-weighted Average will work well to give a good overall exposure".

I have been stuck in Evaluative (Pattern) for a long time.

The article is a hint on how to shoot snow, something we get very little of here in the desert. However I lived in Oshawa Ontario for awhile and had a lot of fun trying to shoot snow.

I've noticed your work a lot (Vancouver) and now Cuba. We have been to Vancouver but Cuba is off limits for me.

Based on your work I will shoot Center Weighted the next time out.

Yes, I saw your shots with the 50 1.8. Nice.

I hope it works for you as well as it seems to work for me. BTW, it doesn't eliminate the need for a grad filter or post processing one in. Keep that in mind.

Thanks, Joayne. It's actually an HDR blended with one of the original shots to tone down the effect in some areas.

As for teaching, thank Canon and an older user here named cosworth. He's the one that first turned me onto it one day street shooting. At least I think that's what he suggested. :)

I was gonna say it looks like a well mapped HDR, but I see you've answered that. Just beautiful no matter the pp technique.

Straightening...lol. Every time I straighten the horizon, I hang the picture crooked.

I actually didn't do much, just a little blending in the clouds.
