an often overlook feature of the Mark II is the min focus distance. This makes the Mark II a lot more useful in close in situations.

Nov 14, 2010 12:35 | #47 It is a fantastic lens - there is no argument there! (shot lightly cropped for presentation actual result shown here: http://www.flickr.com …in/set-72157624636257785/ http://www.flickr.com …in/set-72157624636257785/ 100% crop of a 400D http://www.flickr.com …in/set-72157624636257785/ For performance with a 2*TC its a fantastic result and this is still with the M2 2*TCs - I can't wait to give it a try with the new M3 versions once they hit the market. The only downside is that with such a large lens focusing manually for the macro/closeup shots can be very tricky, but its certainly possible to get great closeup results and that makes for such a versatile nature lens when in the field. Tools of the trade: Canon 400D, Canon 7D, Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS L M2, Sigma 120-300mm f2.8 OS, Canon MPE 65mm f2.8 macro, Sigma 150mm f2.8 macro, Tamron 24-70mm f2.4, Sigma 70mm f2.8 macro, Sigma 8-16mm f4.5-5.6, Raynox DCR 250, loads of teleconverters and a flashy thingy too

Arrgh! I had a feeling something was up ... trying to see difference between an MK1 and MK2, all shot wide open, all are crops.

This is my second copy of this lens (current which I have owned for a year now)... The first one was softer then my current at 200mm and was why I exchanged it (along with IS grinding noise). Performance is very good though with my current lens, no complaints. It just came back from Canon last week for a check/clean/calibrate and IS repair.
