an often overlook feature of the Mark II is the min focus distance. This makes the Mark II a lot more useful in close in situations.

It is a fantastic lens - there is no argument there!

What impresses me more though its is performance when put with a 2*TC - often the most testing of combinations for a lens to perform with and a debatable choice even with some prime lenses:

For performance with a 2*TC its a fantastic result and this is still with the M2 2*TCs - I can't wait to give it a try with the new M3 versions once they hit the market. The only downside is that with such a large lens focusing manually for the macro/closeup shots can be very tricky, but its certainly possible to get great closeup results and that makes for such a versatile nature lens when in the field.

Tools of the trade: Canon 400D, Canon 7D, Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS L M2, Sigma 120-300mm f2.8 OS, Canon MPE 65mm f2.8 macro, Sigma 150mm f2.8 macro, Tamron 24-70mm f2.4, Sigma 70mm f2.8 macro, Sigma 8-16mm f4.5-5.6, Raynox DCR 250, loads of teleconverters and a flashy thingy too

Hard to say - instead of your pictures I see a padlock and the text "Content Protected by Owner" ...

Arrgh! I had a feeling something was up ...

Try again:

trying to see difference between an MK1 and MK2, all shot wide open, all are crops.

No lens is perfect, this one is pretty good, good enough to compete with any other. Had the 70 200 non is before, now the two, a useful upgrade.

My lens seems to be sharper at 70mm then 200mm... This is my second copy of this lens (current which I have owned for a year now)... The first one was softer then my current at 200mm and was why I exchanged it (along with IS grinding noise). Performance is very good though with my current lens, no complaints. It just came back from Canon last week for a check/clean/calibrate and IS repair.

It seems based off all the technical data driven reviews (SLR gear, photozone, etc...) they generally show better performance at 70mm. So mine is probably just fine :p

Still sharp at 200mm, just not as much as 70-135mm or so.
